The HazeGard Plus haze meter for transmission haze testing of films, flexible packaging, and other transparent & semi-transparent materials. Meets ASTM D-1003 “Test Method for Haze and Luminous Transmittance of Transparent Plastics”.

Ideal for the laboratory or plant floor, the HazeGard Plus is a simple-to-use, off-line instrument that indicates transmission haze of plastic film, laminates, flexible packaging and other materials. With a single pass of the light source through your material, the system measures light diffusely scattered for transparent or slightly translucent materials.

Haze is cloudiness of a product caused by the scattering of light. Light may be scattered by particles suspended in the material, such as pigment particles or contaminants, or by an imperfect surface cause by dirt or a fine texture. Haze is an important appearance attribute which can be quantified and used to assess the quality of objects including liquids, glass, plastics, painted panels, even metals.

You view a transparent or slightly translucent material by looking at the light that is transmitted through it. Transmission haze is defined as the forward scattering of light from the surface of a nearly clear sample viewed in transmission - only light which is scattered more than 2.5 degrees from incident is considered to contribute to haze. Haze is the percentage of light diffusely scattered compared to the total light transmitted.

The HazeGard Plus is designed to measure haze, transmittance, and clarity in a single instrument. Use the Haze port (right side of instrument) for haze and transmittance measurements, or the Clarity port (left side) for clarity measurements.
