The high quality, yet economical, IDTX-E Appearance & Haze Meter is ideal for haze, clarity (sharpness), transmission opacity, and distant-dependent haze measurement of films, flexible packaging, and other transparent & semi-transparent materials. Camera-based system uses digital imaging rather than coated sphere technology. Correlates to ASTM D-1003 (CIE-C).

ldeal for the laboratory or plant floor, perfect for quality control testing, the IDTX-E Haze Meter is a simple-to-use, economical off-line instrument that indicates transmission haze of plastic film, laminates, flexible packaging and other materials.  With a single pass of the light source through your material, the system measures light diffusely scattered for transparent or slightly translucent materials.

Haze is a measurement of a materials’ light scattering characteristics.  The haze effect can be due to the suspension of particles or contaminants within a fine textured surface and contaminants within the sample.

In applications such as packaging, hazy films can affect a consumers first impression and reduce their quality perception, especially if the packaged product looks cloudy or indistinct. For materials with haze, the visibility of the plastic appears more apparent, and the contrast of viewed objects, behind the plastic, decreases, as shown in the split “low haze on left - high haze on right” example photo at right.

.

Transmission is the measurement of the total amount of light that passes through a chosen material that is influenced by reflective properties and by absorption.  In the industry, the transmission measurement is related to the opacity of the material and/or the hiding power of applied coatings.

The IDTX-E Haze Meter is designed to measure haze, clarity, and transmittance in a single instrument. Innovative camera-based system utilizes digital imaging technolgy.
